The Delaware College of Art and Design (DCAD), founded in 1996, as a creative partnerhip of Pratt Institute and the Corcoran College of Art and Design, is located in the heart of downtown Wilmington, Delaware, aptly described as having a "big city face and a small town soul". The college offers exciting Associate in Fine Art Degree programs in Animation, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, and Photography. At the crossroads to rich, cultural resources of the Brandywine Valley, DCAD is within walking distance of Amtrak's historic train station, minutes away from Baltimore, New York, Washington DC and Philadelphia.
DCAD's strong, committed faculty of high credentialed/practicing artists, small class sizes, spacious, state-of-art studios, computer, and photography labs, and gallery, provide students with a creative, intimate environment to learn and grow. Faculty start with students where they are, building awareness, skills, and vision to take students where they want and need to be. DCAD's programs emphasize studio education in art and design combined with a core liberal arts curriculum that includes Writing and Literature and Art History. The foundation year includes an extremely valuable Foundation Seminar where students experience 2-3 weeks of hands-on exploration in each DCAD area of study to strengthen career awareness and to clarify individual visual art choices. Students may also gain meaningful work experiences through part-time art assignments at area businesses and organizations, while enrolled at DCAD. Through DCAD's unique partnerships and articulations with Pratt Institute and the Corcoran College of Art and Design, well-prepared DCAD graduates exceed with tremendous flexibility and extraordinary options to enter the workforce or to automatically continue study at the junior level at Pratt or the Corcoran to secure their bachelor of Fine Art degree. Many DCAD graduates also continue BFA studies at other major art colleges nation-wide.
In addition to the high caliber art and design curriculum and connections, students reside in DCAD's spacious, newly renovated, partially furnished apartments, within walking distance to the college. In terms of value, DCAD's reasonable tuition, Merit Scholarships, and need-based aid provide excellent savings to qualifying candidates. Portfolio(50%), high school cumulative grades (25%), and art grades (25%), are considered in the admissions formula. Students are encouraged to apply by March 15 for fall semester admission or by December 1 for spring semester admission. Applications received after the admission deadlines will be reviewed on a space available basis. |

Furthermore, DCAD graduates successfully transfer to other major art and design colleges nationwide.

Along with DCAD's challenging instruction and informative lecture series, students are exposed to tremendous opportunities to secure art/career related assignments at area businesses and organizations, creating on-the-job experiences while building excellent post-grad job prospects. |
